When to Call Us — and When to Go to the ER
Most dental emergencies are best handled by a dental office. A few need the hospital.

Call (617) 356-0860 and we will fit you in as soon as possible — usually the same day for true emergencies.rnrnFor life-threatening concerns — uncontrolled bleeding, facial trauma affecting breathing, signs of serious infection (spreading swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing) — go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Most hospitals in the Greater Boston area can stabilize you and refer back to us for restorative follow-up.
What We Handle Same-Day
- Severe tooth pain | Often the first sign of infection, abscess, or fractured tooth.
- Knocked-out tooth | Time is critical — call us immediately for best reimplantation chances.
- Broken crown or veneer | We can stabilize and plan permanent repair.
- Lost filling | Same-day restoration to protect the exposed tooth.
- Dental abscess | Infection treated with drainage, antibiotics, and follow-up care.
- Post-extraction bleeding | If bleeding continues after home measures, we can intervene.
Is This a Dental Emergency?
Severe tooth pain (yes)
Throbbing, waking you up at night, or triggered by chewing — call us.
Knocked-out tooth (yes)
Place it in milk or saliva and call immediately. Reimplantation odds drop after 30–60 minutes.
Broken tooth with pain (yes)
Sharp edges cutting your tongue or pain exposing the nerve — call us.
Mild sensitivity (no)
Usually fine to wait for a routine visit, unless persistent or worsening.
Spreading facial swelling (ER)
Rapidly growing swelling, difficulty swallowing, fever — go to the ER first.
Uncontrolled bleeding (ER)
After 20+ minutes of pressure — go to the ER for stabilization.

For true after-hours emergencies — facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, serious infection — go to the nearest ER. For pain that can wait, call us first thing the next business day.
Depends on the treatment needed. We quote before proceeding whenever possible.
Medically necessary emergency care is often partially covered. We submit claims on your behalf.
Hold the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse gently with water, and place in milk or inside your cheek. Call us immediately — reimplantation chances are highest within 30 minutes.
Don't start antibiotics without evaluation — we'll assess and prescribe if appropriate. Painkillers are fine per package directions while you wait for evaluation.
