Surgery itself is performed under local anesthesia — most patients feel pressure but no pain. Post-op discomfort varies by procedure but is typically manageable with OTC or mild prescription pain relievers for 2–4 days. Sedation options are available for anxious patients.
Initial soft-tissue healing takes 1–2 weeks. Full bone integration takes 4–6 months before an implant can be placed on top. We plan implant timing around your individual healing response, confirmed with follow-up imaging.
Both can handle many surgical procedures. Periodontists specialize in bone, gum, and soft-tissue cases — exactly what implant-related surgery requires. Dr. Fedorenko handles these cases in-house, so you don't get referred out and then re-referred back for restoration.
Yes — same-day emergency care during office hours (Mon–Fri, 9 AM – 4 PM). Call (617) 356-0860 and we'll advise or schedule immediately. For true after-hours emergencies (severe facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, swelling affecting breathing), go to the nearest emergency room.
Medically necessary surgery (extractions, biopsies, emergency treatment) is often covered in part by dental and sometimes medical insurance. Implant-related surgery (grafts, sinus lifts) may be partially covered depending on your plan. We're out-of-network and submit claims on your behalf.
Sometimes — an extraction and immediate implant placement (with bone grafting if needed) can be done in one visit when the site is clean and bone quality is adequate. This is determined from your CBCT scan at consultation.
Local anesthesia is used for all surgical procedures. Oral sedation (a pill you take before the visit) is available for anxious patients and longer procedures. We review all options at your consultation.

This doctor is exactly that. The free consultation lasted over an hour, not 10 minutes. X-rays were taken, and everything was clearly explained and shown to me: what treatment was needed, why, and what the underlying causes were. There was no rush and no pressure — just professionalism, attention, and genuine care. I am also very happy with the treatment itself. Highly recommended!
